It can also keep your brain active and minimise age-related decline. Every time we learn new skills we activate different brain cells and increase the number of connections within our brain. This builds up a mental reserve which may help us to deal more effectively with diseases such as Alzheimer’s, dementia or brain injury.
For the immediate feel good factor, the sense of excitement and achievement on learning a new task, particularly a challenging one, is fantastic and is a tremendous boost to self esteem and confidence.
This section is dedicated to learning new skills. We aim to introduce at least one a month in the newsletter, for example:
- Creating stitched cards for someone special
- Exercises from the physio for hands and for feet
- The basics of the Internet
- Important things to know about computer security
- Walking for health
- Understanding email
- Setting goals for yourself... And keeping them.
- Creating thread cards
- Time management
- Reflexology
- Quilting
- Getting rid of junk mail - decluttering
- Emotional Intelligence. What's that?
- The benefits of owning a pet
- Improving your doctor / patient relationship
- Making the most of the forthcoming festive season for quality of life
- How writing a thought diary can help us all
And there is another added every month....
